Word from the wild is Herring Blade is useful and well designed. We agree 😝😝😝 !!! All of our Kickstarter orders have been fulfilled (except for a few that haven't filled out the survey..tap tap), so if you want one we'll ship it out to you tomorrow (yes on a Saturday) + with a custom laser marking hidden beneath the blade if you'd like.

We got an email a few days ago with kind words from toolmaker + bookbinder Jeff Peachley (woah cool work!) and were pointed to his article about bookbinder's favorite tools, which includes a beautiful peak into the history of the snap-blade. Here's an excerpt :

Yoshino Okada invented the Olfa snap-off blade knife in 1956. He lived through the occupation of Japan by the United States in WW2, and later remembered American GIs giving him chocolate bars which could be broken into pieces. Working for a printing company, he grew tired of not having a sharp knife always at hand. Inspiration struck when he was looking at the sharp shards of a broken glass, the memory of the chocolate resurfaced, and the concept for a snap-off blade was born. At least according to official company lore.

Thank you Jeff, that was a fun + informative read.
