Times 10 round 2.Â

In our last test run of Solid State Watch, we had 2 out of 10 die on us during the process of making them. Not super, but ok. Our scientific observation is you must watch the resin as it cures :p. This time we're testing a slightly (not noticeable) deeper case. We're making 10 so if you want in on this batch...

Solid State Watch Limited Test Run #2

We apologize to international folks, but we're only shipping these limited runs to the domestic US.

We'll keep announcing small batches of these here and on IG.

Starstruck.

This weekend we took kiddos to the printed matter zine fair on st marks. It was great but too crowded for kids, so after a quick scan we ended up hanging by a city bike stand. Kiddos joyfully discovered spinning the front wheel of a citi bike makes its headlights turn on.

A friend texted me to come visit his friends booth. His friend happened to be Tauba Auerbach, one of my favorite contemporary artists and probably THE person I would ask to meet if you asked me if I could meet someone, anyone. I was so psyched and immediately professed my fondness of her work, and how every time I teach, I always talk about the piece (pictured above) RGB Colorspace Atlas (2011), which is a physical representation of how a computer models color. Tauba told me she had to have to book printed 3 times to get it right, because the first 2 times the printer used a paper that was a few microns too thin, so the cube turned out squashed.

Last night I was checking out her website and found The Familiar Stranger, a project I'd never seen before. It's a 200 edition Casio f-91w hack, with a custom manual. Always nice to discover when people you admire share similar loves, a nice sibling to Solid State Watch.

Malmö.

If you happen to be in Malmö Aug 23-24 or want an excuse to get there, The Conference is happening again. You can check out talks from previous years including Che-Wei's talk from 2019, when design gets swallowed by engineering.Â

With love and hugs,
