Fragments.Â

My Nana made this over 50 years ago. It is a study model, an experiment she made while working at a foundry outside Montreal in the 60/70s. After having 3 boys, Nana in secret went to art school to become a sculptor and teacher. This piece has been sitting on her window ledge for as long as I remember. She told us she made it by melting foam.

It's these small fragments of a creative practice I find most interesting. The experiments, small nuggets that contain the rawness and quickness of expression, without the heaviness of a "complete" work. I love that she hung onto this piece after all this time.
