cool news.

Over the summer we dropped off some CW&T items at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum for consideration for their permanent collection. We left giddy, with that pink slip above, acknowledging receipt of our items.

They wanted to consider Pen Type-A, B + C, Personal Body Unit Index and Time Since Launch. So we brought those, along with prototypes, or supporting material to help tell the story of the projects.

This Wednesday, we got news that all of those items were acquired as part of their permanent collection. For the pens + poster, (conservation speaking) things are pretty straightforward. One thing discussed for the brass Pen Type-B was whether or not to polish the item for an exhibit, or to leave it untouched with whatever patina has accumulated from sitting in a box for some number of years. We decided it was best to polish prior to exhibit, as the patina we design for was not of the sitting in a box variety, but one that shows human use and wear.

For Time Since Launch, we had interesting conversations as to how that item will be conserved indefinitely. Some battery powered items in the collection have maintenance protocols where batteries are swapped on a regular (annual at least) basis. For Time Since Launch, they said 100 years was too long a stretch to go without checking in on the thing. So they suggested annual swaps. We're curious to see where things will land.

Earth Clock.

Even though it sits in our kitchen, we haven't powered this old project in a few years. Friends visited the other day and asked to turn it on. It was really fun to see it go after so much time. It ended up being a bit too distracting for our kids, so it's off again. I haven't had time to look into where that #3 is located, but it looks like some grassy peninsula, somehow (temporarily preserved) where the edges surrounding landscape have been eroded away.

As much as it is daunting, I like the end of year, intense accumulation happening in studio right now. Piles, stools, more piles, light stands predicate where we can situate our bodies. I'm feeling the vibe.

End of year dates.

We very much and always appreciate your support of our work. If you are still considering something as an end of year token, please be mindful of shipping cutoff dates for UPS. The sooner the safer! It usually takes us 24 hours to customize + prepare your order.

CW&T SHOP

We've got a very small number of Brass Spin Top V4 left, Jump Ropes, Pen Type-A + C, very very limited Pen Type-B.

With love and hugs,
