Strategy.

It's rare for us to leave studio on a weekday, but yesterday morning was special. After seeing our kids off to school, we rode bikes into the city to catch a live taping of Debbie Millman interviewing Seth Godin for her podcast Design Matters. The event closed the season for the Creative Mornings NYC chapter, a monthly event for creatives to gather face to face.

The interview centered mainly around Seth's new book This is Strategy, and also covered some memorable anecdotes about generosity and resilience. One that stuck out was Debbie talking about a class she once took with Milton Glaser in which he spoke about the importance of operating under a mindset of abundance as opposed to scarcity, in the sense that there really is enough to go around and it is important to be generous with your work and knowledge.

The conversation also led our house/studio to thinking about strategy and how it relates to our day to day. Last night, into the first few pages of Seth's book Che-Wei perked up in realization ..."Taylor! we don't have a strategy!". To which I lazily reply, "I don't know, I feel like we have a strategy, or at least, the things that are happening in my head feel somewhat strategic." To which he replied, "That's exactly the point, that's not a strategy!". And he's right.

Who knows where this will go. Again, we both need to read the book.

Nice shop.

After the live taping, we headed over to visit Steven Alan's new NYC shop, an expertly curated boutique blending hard to get or vintage items, timepieces, and quality everyday classics. It feels like a personal collection of things Steven likes, each with its own story, and he's got incredible eye for good things! We were really excited a few months ago when he asked if he could include some CW&T items in his shop. It was fun to see them in person.

Then it was insanely cold and windy and people said there was snow, but it wasn't real and we biked home.

Reply here.

We had our second virtual open office hour session just now. It was super fun. Really, such a pleasure to meet seven of you! The list for January is almost full, reply here to signup.

ALSO... thank you so much for supporting our work over the past week. As you probably know, BFCM is a really important time for any business, and the bombardment on social media felt a bit nuts. We are very grateful for all of your orders, and not no longer be blasting you with BFCM emails anymore. Appreciate the patience with that!

With love and hugs,

Che-Wei + Taylor
