Secret Treasure.
Sculptures with a hidden compartment in the base by Rebeca Raney made with up-cycled Superlocal parts.
Once these are gone, there will be no more.
Get a sneaky mouse, flower, bowl.
Back in 2021, our first shipment of 400 Superlocal clocks all came damaged. We held onto those parts... many hundred pounds of steel for 3 years until last year we refurbished a bunch of them into KILO, handy sewing/table weights.
Around that time, our friend Rebeca asked us for the remaining damaged steel parts. She wanted to make something with them. We were like, are you sure you want 200 lbs of steel? Yes, she said, I am sure.
Rebeca is an artist + educator. Her work is whimsical and unpretentious. Really, her stuff can't not make you happy. She's endlessly exploring new materials and craft techniques. And she does this with ease and fluidity, her very distinct voice coming through everything she touches. Her practice spans creations from silk paintings to beaded animals, mosaic mirrors to up-cycled quilted clothing to life-sized embroidered alien llamas - one of which guards our bedroom.
We have lots of friends who make things. But with Rebeca, it feels different. Making is so much a part of who she is. We're so excited to share her weird and funny sculptures with you.
