A party, a community, supporting study.
Building and defining new and accessible structures for alternative education and community feels really important right now. The School for Poetic Computation (SFPC) is in their 13th year of doing just that. With a shared commitment to study, solidarity and wonder, their classes range from Consensual Hacking to HTTPoetics to SexEd. They operate as a non-profit, with 45% of students attending on scholarship.
The weekend of June 20th, SFPC will be holding their very first Poetic Promenade. It will be a celebration, a way to connect with community and also a fundraising event to support the school. If you are interested in building community around art, technology and study, come hang out.
Support SFPC and join the celebration
Running a school, is no joke. The work SFPC has done to sustain themselves while also providing so much for their community is a tremendous feat. I feel really lucky to have been able to see it grow over the years.
This is a two day event. You can pick and choose what you'd like to come for, or come for everything. Saturday night is a party, Sunday will be lectures, hanging out and a quick handing out of diplomas.
If any of you, or someone you know, are interested in joining as a patron or sustainer, I'm happy to chat with you more about the organization. Feel free to pass this on!
Not pointing any fingers.
Che-Wei made this cool lamp using 1P flashlight and some bent sheet metal. He made it because the light I usually use lights up the whole room. It's called Good Night Light and it's on view at two places this week for NY design week. The first is at Shine, a gallery in south street seaport. The other is at an exhibit put on by Slow Construct.
Check them out!

It was only after Che-Wei got down that Bobrow found out the joints were 3D printed.
Washi tape fits perfectly within the rows of Annual Week View Calendar. (A Bobrow discovery).
We just had an in person open office hour session. A well received bit of feedback from a guest was that it was nice to see that we're just real people. They were referring to how "lived in" our space was. Code for ... you guys aren't neat at all, and I wasn't expecting that.
First prototype of a new thing. Lots of tests. Layout needs a big re-arrange. But it works! Built it using easyeda for the first time and also had the board assembled by jlc, which saved so much time.
With love and hugs,
Che-Wei + Taylor
